The Evolution of Aston Martin’s DB Series

Following the racing success of the DB3 and 3S, Aston Martin introduced the DB Mark III. It used the same Lagonda engine as the DB2, but introduced mechanical disc brakes, optional automatic transmission and optional dual exhaust, raising the output from 162bhp to 178bhp. A later engine upgrade would raise the power to 195bhp, but the high cost meant the upgrade would only be put on 10 Mark IIIs.

Even thought Bond drove the DB5 in the Goldfinger film, it was actually the Mark III in the novel, making it 007’s first Aston Martin
