10 Fun Facts About Mercedes-Benz
10 things you should know about one of the oldest and most iconic automakers.
Mercedes’ tri-point star is one of the most recognizable logos in popular culture, but what does it mean? The logo was first conceived by Gottlieb Daimler, founder of one of the companies that would unite into Mercedes-Benz, to represent universal transportation – sea, land and air. After Daimler’s death, his sons Paul and Adolf found the logo in a postcard their father sent to their mother and trademarked it.
After Daimler passed away in 1900, chief engineer Wilhelm Maybach took over and brought on racing enthusiast Emil Jellinek as a partner. Jellinek’s daughter Mercédès–a Spanish girl’s name meaning “grace”–was the inspiration for the later trade name.
